Job Status: Fulltime, short-term contract ends June 30th 2020
Hours of Work: 30 hours per week FOR FOUR MONTHS CONTRACT.
Pay rate: $20/hour plus short-term contract

Nature of the Position
The Manufacturing Assistant (Assistant) is responsible for producing K-Lumet including assembling fire starters, operating specialized hand-operated machines for cutting toilet paper rolls and making wood splints, and using a wax melting machine.. The Assistant will also be responsible for assisting with training research participants working at K-Lumet for a three month on-the-job training program. This includes managing schedules and working one-on-one and in a group setting. The Assistant will require a understanding of the research project and principles including a social model of disability. The Assistant Production Manager reports to the Production Manager.
Required Abilities

Class 5 Drivers license

WCB Approved Workplace First Aid Level 1, or willingness to acquire

Proven ability to take directions and work independently

Proven ability to train or teach people task based skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Proven ability to use personal computer and appropriate software effectively to complete the positions work on time

Excellent interpersonal behaviour and communication skills

Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others

Manual dexterity and ability to do hard physical work

Willingness to complete repetitive tasks

Good organization, time and general management skills

Proven ability to assess and interpret human behaviour accurately and respond supportively

Proven ability to assist in emergencies

Flexible schedule

Knowledge of theory, principles and practices of the community living sector an asset but not a requirement

Experience in a start-up and/or social enterprise environment also an asset
Duties and Responsibilities
-
Assemble fire starter when required
-
Maintenance of production equipment
-
Organize the production space ensuring it is clean and tidy and ready for use
-
Design operations manual for making K-Lumet
-
Direct workflow as per the needs of production on any given day

Entering into daily logs to record the production and use of materials

Assist research participants working at K-Lumet with operations of equipment

Coordinate participant scheduling

Support the diverse needs of the participants as they train

Report to supervisory team and attend supervisory meetings

Complete administrative tasks as needed

Is the primary First Aid on site should there be a need

Hold client confidentiality and sign confidentiality forms

Attend Team Training as required

Clear criminal record check

Other tasks as assigned by Production Manager
